A palliative care nurse reluctantly befriends the son of a former patient, whose ghost haunts her during her stay in the branches of a yew tree.
Audrey is a poet and a terminal cancer patient, who decides to end her own life. Laurel is her nurse and the only witness to her death. After Audrey is gone, Laurel goes on a journey to escape and gets stuck not-far-enough up the tree she intended to take her own life from. She remains there, disturbed by the ghost of Audrey, and the real life presence of Audrey’s son Sebastian, whose path to lay flowers on his mother’s grave takes him past Laurel’s yew.
TreeGirl uses poetic, simple dialogue to explore the intricate emotional lives of three characters. It is a poignant and lyrical exploration of unexpected connections, the morality of death and the buoyancy of depression.
