THE DEAD LETTER OFFICE

POPCORN GALAXIES

Who have you lost touch with, and what would write to them if you could?

The Dead Letter Office invites audiences to consider this question in an intimate performance about loss, longing, and human connection. Inspired by the undeliverable and misdirected mail that finds its way into the postal service’s office for “dead letters,” this performance explores the lived experiences of real people and delivers otherwise impossible messages from those we have lost.

Saturday, June 8 @ 6:00pm

Sunday, June 9 @ 7:00pm

LOCATION: Alderney Landing Theatre

RUNTIME: 35 minutes

AUDIENCE NOTE: Possible mature content

The One-On-One Experience: This intimate, interactive Dead Letter Office performance will pop up at the Saturday Market and at the Public Library during the Stages Festival. Audience members are invited to sit down with our Dead Letter Officer to experience mysterious connections across time and space.

Saturday, June 8 @ 11:00am - 1:00pm (Alderney Landing Farmers' Market Waterfront Hut)

Monday, June 10 @ 2:00pm - 5:00pm (Alderney Gate Public Library)

POPCORN GALAXIES

Vancouver, British Columbia

Popcorn Galaxies is an experimental theatre company founded by Co-Artistic Directors June Fukumura and Keely O’Brien. Since its conception in 2013 the company has been creating and producing new works in Vancouver, B.C. and across Canada. Familiar structures such as scavenger hunts, walking tours, and choose-your-own-adventures are subverted and reimagined to explore questions about contemporary human existence. Using an extended collaborative process and a quirky do-it-yourself aesthetic we attempt to re-enchant the everyday world through theatre. Our work creates unlikely interactions and asks our audience to experience familiar landscapes through a heightened poetic lens. In our process there is a strong emphasis on finding unique ways of including the audience as active participants and crucial co-creators of our work. Popcorn Galaxies aims to illuminate the mundane by juxtaposing it with the unexpected and to test the thresholds between imagination and reality, life and theatre.
