MODELLING
SEELEY QUEST  |  APRIL HUBBARD  |  KIANA JOSETTE STEPH KINCADE  |  AMANDA SMITH  |  MAHIA TENCH

Two physically disabled artists grapple with erotics and power during their first photoshoot together.

The figure art model and photographer characters have differing disabilities and aren’t assigned genders; roles played with different embodiments will shade dynamics differently.  Experimenting with cast rotation, and co-developing with disabled community members, it centres questions of desire, consent, exposure, performance, intimacy, and labour relations.

“who owns artistic ideas?”

This project playfully engages questions of authorship by using theatre and dance-based methodologies to create a collaborative, impromptu performance choreography. Audience members will witness Armstrong, Breihan, and participants from a morning workshop as they navigate a chance-based performance game, attempting in real-time to make a new story out of existing elements.

MATTHEW LUMLEY  |  JACKSON FAIRFAX-PERRY

A work-in-progress showing of a new dance/theatre piece that uses audio recordings to bring light to the isolation of seniors and how the end of life desires our attention as much as the beginning.

LOST DOG PROPHET

BRANDON LORIMER

Lost Dog Prophet is a choose-your-own-adventure theatre experience exploring questions of agency and the purpose of humanity on our planet. Encountering an ancient A.I. named PLUTO in the post-apocalyptic world of Nowhere, the audience is given collective control over the flow of this narrative, leaving the conversation (and its consequences) in their hands.

MATRIARCH

MARY FAY COADY

Matriarch is a provocative, music-theatre hybrid that plumbs questions about the roles of tradition and inherited values in a modern world. It navigates the paradox of honoring where we've come from, while also growing into our own individuality.

MODULAR-MOVEMENT-MOTIF

JACINTE ARMSTRONG & CHRISTINE BREIHAN

“who owns artistic ideas?” This project playfully engages questions of authorship by using theatre and dance-based methodologies to create a collaborative, impromptu performance choreography. The morning workshop will draw on the Viewpoints method, Laban Movement Analysis (LMA), and the story of Goldilocks, bringing together these seemingly-disparate elements through a game of chance operations that we hope will generate new responses to age-old questions. In the afternoon, we will repeat the process before an audience. All experience levels welcome — this should be a fun opportunity to play around in a low stakes and welcoming room with dancer Jacinte Armstrong and LA-based artist Christine Breihan.

Participants can expect to roll some oversized dice, follow movement & text prompts (and maybe invent new ones), reassemble parts of a story, and maintain a sense of humour. A basic warm-up will be included, wear clothes comfortable for movement.

And usually each process is full of different people with different styles of communication, different preferences and varied boundaries. So what works best? How do you avoid communication breakdown? How do you deal with it when it happens?  This session will break down the tricks and tips on creating a caring and communicative team within a room and give practical examples of how to share information with each other.
